Correct HTML

The three major search engines within their webmaster guidelines stress the importance of correct html. A test of the top four listed sites in each engine produced the following results.

Google

  1. 17 warnings
  2. 1 warning
  3. 7 warnings
  4. 1 warning

Yahoo

  1. 12 warnings
  2. 0 warnings
  3. 0 warnings
  4. 1 warning

MSN

  1. 7 warnings
  2. 40 warnings 6 errors
  3. 0 warnings
  4. 1 warning

Search term: correct html

HTML Tidy was used to check the correctness of each search result. The settings for Tidy were:

This was a very generic and very limited test. It appears that the html is basically correct; although, many warnings were prevalent. Only one result contained html errors.

In fairness to the search engines, they stress correct html; not, perfect html. I will leave you, the reader to draw your own conclusion.

This page was put through the exact same test for correct html.
